DMC Scratch Battle

The DMC - the official DJ World Championship comes to Berlin again and will crown the best turntable artist at the Sample Music Festival 2024. The format is open for every scratch artist no matter what origin. Win participation in the official DMC Scratch World Finals and lots of prizes.

Schedule

The Pre-Finals will be held on the evening of 12th July at 8PM at House of Music Berlin located at Revaler Strasse 99 in Berlin.

The Finals will take place at 11PM on the following evening at the same venue. DMC World is also having online eliminations and finals on dmcdjchamps.com - time to be announced.

For those who are in attendance. DMC World is already doing it's own online eliminations so this just a special live competition for those who can battle in person. We are planning to broadcast the whole event at DMC channel. The SMF Scratch Champion will automatically advance to the DMC World Scratch Final taking place online. The champion does not have to enter the online elimination round and will compete with a 2 minute Scratch routine (any equipment).

Rules

Showcase style, vinyl only on turntables and a mixer. Competitors perform a 1 minute Scratch routine for the elimination round. Judges choose their top 8 DJs to advance to the final round. 8 finalists perform a 2 minute Scratch routine. Judges decide the top 3. Champion advances to the (online) DMC World Scratch Finals (TBA).

Hardware

In order to ensure a fair and seamless competition experience, every competitor will have the opportunity to perform on identical equipment. The set up consists of a TECHNICS MK7 SL1210 turntable including TBA needles and a high-quality DJ mixer (TBA). To accommodate all players, each set up is available in both a left-handed and right-handed configuration.

Criteria

The jury will consider the following criteria in making their decision: musicality, fader & record performance, cleanliness, complexity, flow, timing, and creativity.

Accommodation

We have partnered up with a hostel which is nearby our venue. On the hostel website you can get 10% discount on shared rooms with our code FRIENDS. However, a credit card is required to book the rooms.
