The event in 2016 promised to become one of the most memorable and exciting, due to the extraordinary range of artists who were invited. The legendary turntablist D-Styles from the Invisibl Skratch Piklz came to Berlin to showcase his awe-inspiring skills and also shared some fascinating insights on the stage about his illustrious career.
On top of that, we had 6x DJ World Champion Rafik on board who gave an enthralling lecture about the evolution of DJ techniques. The legendary DJ Unkut, who is undoubtedly one of the greatest talents to have ever lived, graced us with one of his final turntablism showcases on this evening, which was an immense honor for us.
The evening was truly remarkable when German composer Johannes Kreidler gave a lecture on Sampling and Dr. Ryan Ross Smith from New York brought an exciting perspective to our music culture with his talk on Animated Music Notation. Our symposium was taken to the next level with these two academics, and we are all grateful for the knowledge and inspiration they shared with us.
Another great advantage of this event was the acknowledgement from our global community, as we had the Skratch Lordz from the United Kingdom and Battle Ave from the United States
participating. Unfortunately, the event was still not very successful in terms of the audience turnout, and we had to bear the costs, but we never lost faith in the vision we had for Sample Music Festival.
